Inclusion, Emotional Health and Wellbeing at Haslemere Primary School

At Haslemere Primary School, we are a warmly inclusive community where every single child is welcomed, valued and supported to achieve their full potential, regardless of their individual needs. We firmly believe that every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our primary focus is to deliver a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum through high-quality classroom teaching, adapted to suit diverse learning styles and strengths.

How We Support Your Child

We recognise that children may need a little extra help at different points in their school journey. To ensure no barrier stands in the way of their success, we use a clear, step-by-step approach to identify and support additional needs:

  • Universal Support: High-quality, tailored teaching in the classroom that benefits all children and helps the vast majority make fantastic progress.

  • Targeted Support: Small-group interventions specifically designed to help children catch up with their peers in particular areas.

  • Specialist Support: Tailored individual support for children with exceptional or specific needs, matching advice from external health, speech, language or educational professionals.

We have extensive experience in successfully supporting a wide range of needs, including dyslexia, autism, speech and language difficulties, and physical or sensory needs. Furthermore, all of our school trips, after-school clubs and activities are fully accessible to every child, ensuring everyone is included in the full magic of school life.

Nurturing Emotional Health and Wellbeing

We know that happy, confident children are children who can learn best. Looking after the mental health and emotional resilience of our pupils is woven into everything we do. Alongside our day-to-day interactions and standard curriculum, we are proud to offer targeted wellbeing provisions for children who need an extra emotional boost, including:

  • Dedicated ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) sessions.

  • On-site Play Therapy.

  • Access to our specialised Sensory Room

Working in Partnership with You

You know your child best, and your voice is vital to us. We work in close partnership with parents and carers at every stage. If we feel your child would benefit from an adjusted learning or SEND plan, we will consult you immediately. Together, we will set individual targets and review them at least three times a year to celebrate progress and decide on next steps.

Our Inclusion Team

Our dedicated team is led by qualified specialists who hold the National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCO):

  • Assistant Head for Inclusion / SENDCO: Mrs Sarah Grayson-Healey

  • Head of School: Miss Kay Ottley

  • Wellbeing Lead / ELSA: Mrs Delie Blanchett

If you ever have any questions about your child's progress or wellbeing, Mrs Grayson-Healey is available from Monday to Thursday and can be reached via the school office or at sstam@haslemere.merton.sch.uk.
