Hello and welcome to 1Q Queen Victoria Class

Hello and Welcome to 1QV Queen Victoria Class

The Queen Victoria Class teaching team is made up of  Mrs Shukla along with support from Mrs Smith and Mrs Lorayne Bell.

It is our passion to make learning fun in year one and to INSPIRE our children to be the best they can be.  The Year One curriculum enables the children to become confident and independent learners. Each of our half termly themes are based around a book or a film stimulus and the lessons are planned to be language rich, empowering children to express themselves.

This year we will be exploring the themes ‘Little Beans and Giant Feet’  ‘Toy Story,’‘Jungle Fever’, 'Paddington', 'Out of this World' and ‘Message in a Bottle’.  Every theme is launched with a Wonderful Wow moment to hook the children into their new learning.  There is also a Marvellous Middle and a Fabulous Finale which celebrates the end of the theme.

Literacy, Maths Mastery, Phonics and Reading are taught every day in year one but rest assured all of the other curriculum subjects are taught throughout the week too, including computing, PE and Music.

We are also a Philosophy for Children Gold Award School so philosophy, debate and discussion are embedded in our curriculum and the day to day life of the classroom.

We are dedicated to your children’s emotional wellbeing and we understand that the last six months has been difficult for both adults and children alike. This is why we are ensuring a longer transitional period for your children. Additionally, we’ve developed a range of activities to help your children settle and express their feelings, including relaxation techniques and daily emotion charts. As well as continuing to provide a safe and happy environment in which the children can take risks, challenge themselves and thrive on a love of learning.

Please support your child's progress by hearing them read at least 3 times per week and writing in their homework diary.

Many thanks

Mrs Shukla
